Excellent explanation, thanks! Potential blog post there on “preamble” techniques/ideas etc where you break it down more… I know i’d certainly find it helpful, even just a list of phrases, maybe everybody could add to it.

I find a lot of such phrases differ between countries (eg UK & US). I’m forever hearing, “You know,…” or “This one time, I…” when I travel in the US.

Think I’ve read your “I’ve an intuition about you…” one too.

Hey Joe,

I’m demonstrating a preamble. That is something that you say just to get her attention before you saying anything important. Sounds like you do the same thing. Excellent, together we can rule the galaxy as guys who use preambles.

I think the key to the preamble is to make it all a statement while building some sort of anticipation. I use, “Hey I have a question for you.” all the time. It’s my go to phrase. But I like other ones. “Hey, this may sound wild and crazy…” is another one I like. “I noticed you over there and I had to come over here, because you made me think of something.” is another.

The best ones just follow the rules and have some creativity and build that sense that you are about to say something important in a moment, so pay attention and get ready for it because it is coming at you…”

What are your other standard phrases to start a OEQ, here you’ve used “hey, I’ve a question for you…”. I use often “I was just thinking…”
